Windows firewall....

WinXP Home SP2. When I go to Control Panel > Windows Firewall, it is completely greyed out (see screenshot). I tried "Restore Defaults" in the Advanced tab but that didn't do anything. There are no 3rd party firewalls installed either. Any ideas on how 'enable' the Windows Firewall when it's all greyed out like this?

Thanks, but when I try to run gpedit.msc I get a "file could not be found" type of error. I didn't think that XP Home had gpedit.msc, I thought that was only in Pro.... I went to Administrative Tools too and there wasn't anything of use there either

 

Try dial-a-fix? that can try and reinstall windows firewall
or just try a 3rd firewall like comodo.

That was one of my first thoughts too....

Been using it for years! Great freekin' program... I ran it and MBAM and a good temp cleaner and got rid of some nasties. The cleaner removed over 4gb worth of temps and related garbage. Turns out the PCs owner has the firewall disabled on purpose because he was planning to install Zone Alarm, but he starting getting "all these weird pop-ups and messages that I had spyware" (his words). He just told me this a little while ago when I asked him about the firewall. So it was rogue-ware (which is now gone) and all is well. Thanks for the help though
