windows freeze on boot-up

Hi my Windows 98SE froze up during boot-up (on logo ). and then rebooted twice into safe-mode.

** in safe mode i ran Spybot S&D and got only tracking cookies. (although the scan seemed to sudenly stop even though it had 5 minutes left on it's count down--normal?)

** Ad-aware got only "Dataminer" cookies

** updated Norton anti -virus found nothing

I defraged and rebooted. During reboot it had the message "wait while Setup updates your configuation files" wich it usualy only does after i've installed new software. It booted into windows fine. But i wonder what that "update" of my configuration files was about.

The reason i think i might have something is because earlier in the week i downloaded a video file off Kazza-lite, and when i tried to play it Windows Media player it automatically did this 'downloading liscense' thing , where something got downloaded without prompting me, and the few windows that auto-matically came up didn't look like microsoft message windows. And then the files didn't have any real video. And the next time i booted up i saw a "Setup updates your configuration files" message.

So do i have something and how do i find it? Should i post my hijack this log ?
Should this be in the software forum?
