Hello. Recently came here trying to figure out what could be wrong with my computer as it randomly decided to die without warning. My responses were either the MB or the PSU was going bad. Turns out it was the MB, so ive gotten a barebones kit to put my Hard drive and cd rom into. i've done that and when i go to start up windows, it goes past the initial startup screen and then goes to the windows loading screen and the freezes. I'm also having trouble getting it to see my CD rom drive so i can try to install the new drivers for the new motherboard.

Could i be doing something wrong? or will i have to re-install windows and start from scratch? (if that is the case is there any way i can save the update files for games like WoW and FFXI so that i wont have to wait 7 hours for them to download and isntall?)

thank you in advance for any help!

Windows "melds" with your motherboard and other peripherals during installation.
When changing a major component (in this case the Motherboard) you need to allow Windows to adjust itself to the the new hardware.
You can do this using what is called a "repair installation".
A repair installation is different from a "clean" install in that it allows you to keep all your files and software intact.
There is an easy to follow - step by step - guide to doing this:
