Windows gets stuck loading at blackscreen... but not all the time

Heres a weird problem that started one day, when windows is booting up after the windows screen with the little bar the screen goes black and normally then the login screen pops up, but for some reason it just hangs at the black screen.

I can get into safe mode no problem, so I figured it was the video card, as when windows hits the login screen thats when it switches to svga. So i tried reseating the video card and cleaning out a bit of dust that was there. And it booted up fine, so i figured that was that. But then upon restarting later on the problem happened again.

If i keep restarting the computer every time it gets stuck at the black screen it will eventually load into windows fine. After that I don't have any problems games run fine with no slow down, so I'm not sure what the hell is wrong. I tried new video drivers, & even reseating all the components in my pc. But this problem wont go away.

So far my only solution is just to keep my pc on

Windows XP SP2
AMD64 3200+
2GB Ram
nVidia 6600GT 256 Mb w/ 93.71 Drivers (the latest ones)
2x 200Gb Maxtor Hard drives
MSI RS482 Motherboard

I am having the same problem

 

It sounds like one or more programs are having trouble loading or you have alot of programs running at start up.

When the Windows logo is running the machine is loading drivers, after it clears, start up programs are loading. It doesn't sound like a driver problem.

Try disabling all programs running at start up except your AV and firewall.

This should speed it up a bit.
