My OS is Windows 2000 Proffessional, all updates applied.

Since I used several cleaner programs I have been having the windows office error that says "please contact administrator or put in microsoft disks" when running office products (which you can click okay and they will go away) as well as an error that says "not valid win 32 application" when trying to install programs from cdroms. I looked this up on the web and its' a programming glitch that has to do with some tiny file in windows that must be replaced. I downloaded and tryed out some fixes and they didn't work.

Now I can't remember what the name of this 'gliche' is and can't find any information on it, but I need to load software for my digital camera.

If any of you know how to solve this problem, or even know what the file is called I'd be really grateful.

    Thanks,

    M

go into the run menu and type this in with exact spacing:

    sfc /scannow

Put your Windows cd in and let it do it's thing.
Windows will scan all the files and make repairs
to anything it spots that is damaged.
When that's done reboot for good measure and give
    the cd's another shot.

    Update:
Problem is now urgent because I can't use excell and I have to for work (I work at home). Its effecting Office 2000 and new program installs.

I think it was actually caused by renaming a drive.

Is there anyway I can get around this or is there another way?

I'm using a copy of win 2000 pro and can't get the original for a few weeks but the copy worked great for installation.

When I run sf /scannow I get this message:
Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache.
When I click retry it says I have inserted the wrong CD.

Thanks you guys-the I made a re-burn of the windows disk and sf /scan worked-
I can install programs from disks now!

The Windows 2000 Office and Excell problems are still there however and I don't have the disks; I can get them but it will be many weeks. Has anyone heard of a patch or a source for downloading it free for a 'sf /scan' for Office?
I'm grasping here because I don't know much about this problem.

You are on the fine line of asking how to do something that is illegal! No help will be provided in that area so do not ask! If you need those applications, purchase legal copies of your own.

All of our software cds are with my boyfriend who moved out of state, I have legal copies of my software. I've solved the problem on my own tonight anyway.

This worked, but now trying to install new programs gives me this again:

    16 bit Windows Subsystem

c:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I did sfc/ scannow several times with reboot and it's not working. It seems (not sure) to have something to do with installing windows updates online?
I need this program for work, again...So if anyone knows anything about this problem, I'm all ears..
