    Hi, All

Ive just installed Ccleaner 12.01.507 on Windows XP Pro. went to Run Cleaner and after that Windows Help and Support stopped working. In Services, Help and Support has stopped, i clicked start, but it's giving me the following message : Could Not Start The Help And Support Service On Local Computer ERROR 126 The Specified Module Could Not Be Found. I have no idea where to go from here? Ta

I would check the event logs for further information on this problem. Post back with the event ID number, source, and exact error description of anything related to the help and support service.

Ive checked the Sytem log this is the only thing i could find: Source: Service Control Manager, Event ID: 7023, Type: Error, Description : Help and support service terminated with the following error: The specified module could not be found.

The easiest way to back out of the problem is to find the backup of the registry that CCleaner made (it will look something like cc20071023_####.reg) . It is always the date in yyyymmdd_4other numbers followed by dot and reg. When you find it, click on it and your registry will be put back to the way ot was before you ran CCleaner.

OK, I looked for this backup every where in the system no where to be found, i dont even know if choose to back up everything before i run the Ccleaner. I have tried few thing on Google nothing is working. Lot of suggestions about installing the help files from CD, done that lots of times it's not working, how ever i did come across a site where it was showing me how to delete the files and rebuild them through the command prompt but thats not working for me either coming up as " The specified service does not exist as an installed service " http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

The backup would be in My Documents.
You lost me there. What help files and from what CD?
If I were you, I wouldn't start trying to add or remove anything you see suggested on google. You'll get your system in such a state that you'll need to format and do a clean install rather than just a fix.

I trust Kelly's Korner, as far as XP fixes. Go here http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs2.htm
and scroll down until you get to the Question: Why doesn't Help and Support work?
Try the first fix and reboot then see if help and Support is now working. If it isn't, go to the next fix which tells you to type something in the run box. Again, reboot after you've done that and see if that worked.
If not, go onto the next fix, each time rebooting before checking to see if the fix works.

A personal note: I run CCleaner on four computers and have never had a problem but I am hearing about problems with version 2. So far, I have not upgraded any of my computers to version 2.
You may want to remove version 2 and try version 1 of CCleaner. Also, always say yes to the registry backup and check that it is located in My Documents.

    Hi, Plodr

I finally managed to fix the problem from Kellys-korner. The second option worked after reboot. Help and Support back to normal. I was using Version 1 of CCleaner for a while i had no problems with it, i dont know why i istalled Version 2 but anyway, Thank you for heping me out. Oh yeh, Thanks for the advise about backing up the registry first, will do from now on.

Of course, if you use CCleaner, use v1 not v2. ;)
I'm glad one of those solutions worked. I don't run XP but I usually head over to see how Kelly advises to fix things - it's in my bookmarks.

I usually don't upgrade until I've had a week or so to see any comments about anything I'm currently running. Just the few comments I saw about v2 of CC was enough to deter me from upgrading at the moment.
