    Hello,

Please help. I recently had a Trojan virus that I was able to get rid of, but now my Windows Help and Support won't open.

I get a message that says, "Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not running. To fix the problem, select the service named 'Help and Support.'

I ran services.msc and Help and Support is set to automatic. I clicked on it and then clicked , 'Start the Service,' and I got an error message which says, "error 126: The specific module could not be found."

I tried the dougknox fix, but it didn't work.

    Thanks, Ed

    Hi,

Thanks for the link. I tried the 2 "Restores" below that applied to my error message, and they didn't work. The service is set to automatic, but is NOT started, that's the problem. When I try and start the service I get the error message.

    from kellys-korner:

"Could not start the Help and Support Service on Local Computer. Error 126: The specified module could not be found" Restore Help and Support Service. Restore Help and Support Service Keys.

Also, make sure that the Help and Support Service is running. Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. From there scroll down to Help and Support and make sure the service is set to Automatic and is Started."

I'd like to fix the problem, but I'm not too worried about it. Just bugs me when things don't work correctly. Any other suggestions? Thanks. Ed.

Have a look whether this file is present on your system:
    Code:
    C:\Windows\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\pchsvc.dll

Sorry it took a couple of days to respond. Been sick.

Today Windows updated, and guess what? The problem repaired itself. I had just typed you a long response, and then I checked the service to see if it was running, and it said, "started." I then just clicked on Help and Support to see if it would open, and it did.

Thanks for the help from everyone who responded. Ed
