    Hello!

New to the boards and really need help. The Windows Image Acquisition will not start on my computer. Because of this I cannot load the pictures off my digital camera (canon powershot sd 630). It worked once when I first got the camera last month, but since then it has not worked. I called canon and they helped me figure out that WIA was not starting. I called Dell (my laptop is a dell) and Microsoft (since it's a system issue). However, no one will help me without charging large fees. Does anyone here have advice on how I can fix this? Or an alternative way for me to load the pictures off my camera?

    Thanks so much!!
    Jennifer

Un-install and re-install would be the first thing I would try. :D

Thanks for the welcome. Sorry to sound clueless, but what would I be un-installing and re-installing? I did that with the camera software and it didn't help. Is there something else I need to do that with?

Uninstall any camera or scanner software you have. WIA and TWAIN cannot cooexist, it will crash Windows.

There is a decent chance that you have twain drivers installed, thereby disalbing WIA.

So, uninstall any of that software, and see if it will start.

If not, post back with the error.

I used to have a fuji finepix. But I un-installed that software when I got the new camera. Please forgive me, I am not very good with computer terminology. I did a search for TWAIN and it did come up as being on my computer, but I have no idea if it's still active. Also, there were several files named TWAIN so I wouldn't know which to delete. Do you have any additional advice? Thanks!

Uninstall any scanner or camera software :)

What is the error when you start the service?

I did try to uninstall and reinstall the canon software and that did not seem to help. The problem is the program doesn't start. And someone at canon told me that the camera software is dependent on WIA starting. Since WIA won't start the camera software won't start. Now, what the problem is with WIA, I don't know and that is what I am trying to figure out.

Sorry I have no idea what to do with this issue. confused

Try looking in services and see if WIA is set to automatic or maybe disabled. Just a thought...

It was on automatic. Then I tried disabling it and then setting it to manual. Nothing seems to get it to start.

Thanks for the advice though :)

What happens when you click on "Start the service" for WIA?

When I try to start the service it gets stuck on "starting" but never actually starts.

    Let's try a different approach. ;)

Look under services for Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and make sure it is "started" and set to "automatic". Then try and start WIA.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the suggestion. RPC is started and set to automatic. This seems to be one puzzle I cannot figure out. Thanks again!

Is the camera software you are using starting up when you start the computer?

If so, go to Start > Run > and then type msconfig and click on the startup tab and look for the "canon" program. If you find it, disable it from starting when you start the computer.

Restart the computer, go into services and see if you can set WIA to manual.

Restart the computer. From all programs or a shortcut if you have one, open the canon program and see if it starts the service.

The camera software does not appear to be loading when the computer starts. I set WIA to manual. Restarted computer then tried to load camera software. It says error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start

"It says error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start": Found this that shows same symptoms. Might want to take a look. Think you should wait until some one with more knowledgable than me takes a look at it though before you act on it.

Thanks. It seems to be the same error but for a different issue. I appreciate the link though. :)
