I have a Dell XPS 400 (XP media center) that I am fixing for someone. It gives the error message that HAL.DLL is not found. Usually I can fix these kind of problems without a hitch, however...

the windows Media Center installation CD does not recognize the hard drive. I can not run the recovery console or reinstall. I get a Blue screen stating that windows did not find any HDDs installed in my computer. I have a copy of UBCD4WIN that was made from an image of this same disk. Running UBCD4W I can access the disk, and ran HDTUNE which found no disk errors.

Any idea why this is happening? It is a SATA drive, and obviously the BIOS recognizes it.

Also, does anyone know of any utilities that may help me on the UBCD4win?
I tried just replacing the HAL.DLL file, but windows still can not see it.

    Thanks,
That worked great. If anyone else reads this needing help, I just downloaded the drivers from the dell support page and slipstreamed them into my XP disk using nLite.
