Windows Installer 3.1,,,what is this...

    I just checked my windows updates and it tells me I need to install Windows Installer 3.1 . My question is,what does the installer do and do I really need it,just curious.
    I have XP Pro...

    It crashed my machine. So, there's one thing it does. Not sure what else tho. Thank God for "Restore".

    Actually they blew it the first time & crashed networks all over. Stand by for a 2nd to patch the patch.

    I must also be one of the lucky ones! installed on many pcs with no issues whatsoever.


    There was an issue with the first version of WI 3.1 V1 but this now V2 thats available for download.

    main fault with earlier version were http://support.microsoft.com/?id=893803

    No problems here with either version, haven't seen much info or complaints on microsoft newsgroups either... unless I'm looking at the wrong newsgroups.
