    Hi all,

I recently cleaned up my comp. During the process, I think I screwed up the Windows Installer registry. Nothing I am doing is helping.

I found this out when my son tried to load up Minecraft and he got a bootstrap error referring to proxy settings or Java. I turned off my Avast and still had issues. I tried updating Java but I get a Windows Installer error stating that it's not responding. I finally created a Msirepair.reg and did get it finally merged in safe mode. Now when I try to install Java, it just hangs-up on the Windows Installer window saying that Java is installing.

I tried Fixit from the microsoft forums and nothing helped. I then tried scf /scannow. It said it found errors and attempted to fix them. I finally tried repairing from the windows 7 CD, but that didn't do anything.

My next step is to reformat and reinstall 7. I was hoping that somebody here new what to do so I didn't have to reformat because that's a bit annoying.

    Any ideas?
