windows installer problem

I recently reinstalled office 97 after my computer crashed. Word 2000 came
with the restore disk but Office overwrote it with Word 97. Now my Outlook
express 6 spellchecker asks me to install word 2000. Any way to get rid of
this popup?. I have installed a free spellchecker that works after I cancel
the installation of word 2000 but it is a pain to have to cancel that
operation each time.

forgot to mention, I no longer have the Word 2000 disk.

 

Did you try putting in the office 97 disk when the pop-up comes up?

If that doesn't work.....registry edit

 

yes--have tried the putting in the Office 97 disk---what & where do I chnge reg info?

 

start ...run......type..... regedit.....hit enter
on the menu bar click edit....then click find write word 2000 hit OK......then just keep hitting F3 until nothing is found....if you can change what ever it says to... value not set....
Be sure TO BACK YOUR REGISTRY FIRST
And it will take about two hours to finish

did a regedit---deleted any mention of word 2000 & commands that pointed installer there along with the disk prompt command for word 2000---first time, had to reinstall windows 98 since I didn't backup the registry---second time it worked! Thanks! I've been trying to fix for 4 months.

hello BEAST_USA i am writing this in hopes that you can give me some advice. I have just recently installed a free spellchecker prog. from Vamp but when i try to use it, it tells me that an error occurred while the spelling was being checked.

I can get off the screen and continue working on the comp. but it will not let me spellcheck in Outlook Express. Do I need to dl the patch from iespell or is there a dictionary that needs to be installed.

Outlook Express is part of Internet Explorer...if it has a problem you need to re-install Internet Explorer.

If the express install does not work you will to download the full versions.

Hello most machines have win 98 but some have win 2000/nt/xp. I am not to sure about the versions of ethiere but I am pretty sure all but win 98 have most up to date ie and oe. I am pretty sure you may have helped me cause the puter I put it on was a laptop not hooked up to the net so I did not get to dl new versions. I will try to upgrade them as soon as I can get it hooked to net and get proper videodriver for it. I accidently fromat the hard drive and lost the old good video driver. I know 'tupid dryer. lol.
