Windows Installer Problems

Hi, Windows Installer is no longer working. I have tried everything from every forum and help page I could find. Microsoft tech advice wasnt even helping. I keep getting an error message "The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if your running in safe mode or if Windows Installer is not correctly installed". I have tried reregistering it, upgrading, checked the services and made sure it was running. I cannot update or install ANYTHING that uses installer. There has to be an easier way to fix this. Any ideas? :cry (By the way Im using Windows XP)

 

Have you tried the installer clean up tool?

Hi, I did try, however it uses Windows Installer to run. So I keep getting the same error message.

 

This might be a temporary fix for you. Start-Run-Services.msc, find the Windows installer and restart or start the service. I had this problem for a while, seems to have stopped. In services.msc, the installer showed as started, but by restarting it, I got rid of the error.

I did try to start the service but it keeps stopping with some message about how the service will start when it needs to, but it never does.

Have you tried a re-install of Windows Installer?

Hi, yes I tried to reinstall it and still doesnt work. I have tried to restart the service and it tells me that some services will only start when needed. I also noticed that at about the same time, that in Task Manager, all my "User" information is also gone. It is not in my Add/Remove programs either. And unfortunately system restore was turned off for some reason at that time, so I cant use that either. I just can't figure it out. Seems like such an easy problem, yet nothing is working.

 

Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Scroll down to Terminal Services and make sure it is "started" and set to manual.

See if that solves anything.

I have received several error codes, looked them up and tried the responses. For some reason, when I try to start the service, i get a message that some services start when they need to and it will not start. Now I checked and started the installer service on another computer and it started with no problems or message. Weird.
