Windows installer problems

Every time I try to install something using windows installer i get errors. the error codes varied from one software to the other, which is most of them.

Is there any way I can reinstall windows installer in XP? I tried to use the older versions but that didn't work. Would I be able to replace the file or something?

are you referring to the MSI installer packages? (just to clarify)

I'm pretty sure you can repair it. I forget if it's on the cd or if it's on the HDD as well.

search for InstMsi.exe and run that.

Windows Installer version 2.0 is already on XP so you can't download it from MS.

 

No such file.

I believe that's it... it's the windows installer... with the MSI installer thingy.... lol...

Well i searched for it and found nothing. I searched the CD as well and did not find it there...

any other suggestions?

edit: the most common error code i get is 2203.. if that helps

 

well, it's not on there because it's on the office cd.. oops. Sorry. If you have officeXP, the instmsi.exe or instmsiw.exe files should be in the root of the CD. Try installing it and see what it does.

 

I tried the instmsi.exe and did not work.. said wrong os or os version...

the instmsiW.exe did go through with no problems and seemed to have fixed it.
