How did you upgrade? Did you boot to the xp disc and then run the install?

You were in w2k? and ran it from there???

Is this a full xp version or an upgrade version?

It is always best to do a clean install.....which would mean you should save all your personal data and then wipe the system and install xp.

when i put in the step

    c:\windows\system32\dllcache

it says it not recognized as an internal or external command

i tried replacing windows with winnt which is where the windows files are stored but same error. additionally i try to look for dllcache but i have no folder with that name

Now I am confused because winnt is for W2K not xp......you say this is a business machine. Is it in a domain?

What network settings do you need that you would have to reset with a clean install?

it doesnt have a domain but we have the filesync that updates everything and it has several network settings and it was going to be too complicated and i only have the upgrade disc
