    hi all,

    Help needed! (2 problems)

    1) I preformed a virus scan using ewida and removed (quarantined) some
files. Then, whenever I boot or restart the comp. I get a dialog window
with the title "windows installer" stating:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a cd-rom or other removable disk
    that is not available.
insert the 'norton antivirus' disk and then click OK."

    and:

    "use Source
    [ProductName] \LABLE"

if I click the browse feature it popsup to the folder my documents with the
    line "NAV.MSI" marked.
If I click trying open the file or' if I insert the nav2005 disk I get the following

    box:

"Norton Antivirus 2005 does not support the Repair feature, please uninstall
    and reinstall."

I believe that for some reason the install program is trying to install nav
    which is unwanted process.

As I do not (want) need to uninstall and reinstall nav, I want only to get rid
of that annoying window. Also, if
I click 3 times on the cancel button the window vanishes but it keeps
Coming back whenever I start (restart) the comp.

    2) I had installed unintentionally (I do not have network) microsoft.net
Framework v1.1 and since then, I cannot login the simple way but have to
Insert the password after which comes the regular screen.
Whenever I try to "change the way users log in or off" in the users accounts

I have no access to that feature as it says that I have to uninstall the client
    service for Netware.

I uninstalled the program and disabled the "client service for Netware" in
the task manager (according to Microsoft help) but in vain. I cannot "

    change
the way users log in or off" in the users accounts. Can anyone help me with
going back to my favorite way of starting the comp.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks Matacuimbie,

As per your advice I fixed my posted second problem concerning the client service for netware, by removing it in the network connections\properties.

As for your advice concerning windows installer, I downloaded and installed 'Windows installer cleanup utility' and got the following window:
I am not sure what line I should remove in order to get rid of the windows installer multiple trials to reinstall the NAV. As I said I would not like to uninstall the NAV which runs smoothly on my computer.

    Any Idea?

Again I appreciate your advices Thank you.

One thought before you use the Cleanup Utility.

I noticed you have Office installed, try the steps below and restart, see if you get same message from the installer.

    1. Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks, then start that program.

    2. Click Options.

    3. In the left pane, click Miscellaneous.

    4. In the right pane, under "How to keep Microsoft Office documents protected," uncheck Enable Office plug-in.

    5. Click OK

Worse thing is the multiple entries for Norton Software, getting rid of any of them could break the software and lead you to the point you dont want to do, that of re-installing Norton.

as well as Steves suggestion above also clean out all temporary folders incase any residual installer is left in their CCleaner is good for removing all junk from your PC http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4191

Once installed best to just clean some specifics out rather than all the files as if we do a full clean it will remove all cookies so you will have to logon to any websites you normally would auto logon to.

just tick what I have here and click Analyze then Run Cleaner

reboot and see if same installer pops up?

Sorry friends but so far nothing helped.

I did what Steve suggested and unchecked the office plugin and used the cclean as 'Halo' suggested but in vain.

Should not we take some more "aggressive" steps like dealing with the registry?

Unless you get some other ideas / suggestions I would run the Cleanup Utility.

You know the message you are getting is the Windows Installer and you know that it is listing Nortons.

I would uninstall NAV 2005 using this method, http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...sf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=

Then run the Cleanup Utility for all Norton entries. Then reinstall NAV 2005.

That's all I can think of that might get rid of the error message. If there is a registry fix, I'm not familiar with it.

I should have answered your last question instead of going on about what I would do.

Taking into account your hesitation to uninstall NAV because you aren't having any problems, you can try the Utility for some of the entries that you feel may work by all means. You may not experience any problems.

One other thing, please wait for other responses if need be. There are many members here with alot of experience that might think or know of something else to try.

    One last thought.

I believe that the entries in the window are for programs already fully installed. Therefore I think that actually I have to look for a file which stimulates the installer, and it would not be "included" in that window. Any suggestions?

Is there any program which can locate such a file?
