Just recently, the installation of windows updates take a long time. As well as any program that uses installshield. The progress bar sits at 0% for about 20 mins. then the install goes along just fine. I don't know what the problem is. Does anyone here have any ideas?

I'm running Win XP Pro SP1 with all critical updates installed.

Hm. That is strange. Just off the cuff with no research, I'm wondering if it's the result of a random windows patch. MS seems to be notorious for releasing patches with detrimental effects on performance.

Hmmm, that thought had crossed my mind. Maybe I'll go back through the patches and see if one of them is causing the error.

Just to let everyone know, it was the System Restore that was making everything run slower. I located the problem when I went to install my USB gamepad. It was sticking on the 'setting system restore point' part of the installation. So if anyone else is having the same problem, System Restore could be the culprit.
