Upon every boot up, I get the error message: Windows Internet Explorer / Cannot find 'file:///.' Make sure the internet address is correct. (I believe that last part is pretty close to what it actually reads.)

I will tell you that I had installed Internet Explorer 8 at one time, but my work email had trouble with it, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled IE7.

I also can't remember if that message started popping up after I did that.

I have a logfile that I ran a few minutes ago ready to be uploaded if someone would be so kind as to analyze it for me. Thank you.

Hello iBanoots:wave Have you checked for any updates? May be something as simple as needing a window update since the change from 8 back to 7. I am using 7 myself, but have heard of a few people having problems since going to 8 and then back to 7...

Have you been able to get into windows updates to see if you need any? ;)
Give that a whirl, and also, what SP do you have?

    Thanks, TeeCee.

I ran Windows Update and it says that no major updates are needed.

    My SP is Comcast.

I really appreciate your help. I'm really happy I found these forums! :)

Hi iBanoots, I am sorry, I did have to laugh at that LOL I think you meant your service provider is Comcast;) I was asking what Service Pack your computer has. Open IE, and click on help, then click on "About Internet Explorer" Now click "System Information" and you should be able to see what SP you have...

You should see OS( Operating System), then Version under that, and next to Version, will be your service pack...

Maybe a good idea to post your log also, since you don't need any updates... Hmmm.. May need to bring in some big :guns for this one. ;)
    (We got lots! :-D)

Boy, do I feel like an idiot rolleyes (sheesh!) My service pack info is: Service Pack 3 Build 2600.

I believe I attached the logfile. If there's anything else you need, please let me know.

Again, thank you for your assistance.

looking through hjt scan log there you appear to have a couple of bho's that could be causing this error in particular they redirect your home page for internet explorer to the dell web site. have you tried to complete the read and run me first malware guide found here " http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 " this may benefit you and solve this issue. remember don't post hjt logs there follow the guide and post the recommended logs in the malware forum.good luck.
