Windows is updating??????

My sister got this message on her laptop (win XP pro OS) "Do not turn your computer off, Windows is updating and will turn itself off, Updating 1 of 1".....she let it run and it took 24 hours before the system shut down......would anyone have any ideas on what this might be, sounds nasty to me.

Sounds very fishy ....more info and try an online scan before we send you to the malware section.

Does she know what the download was ....if sp2, it could take a while, but not 24 hours.

Thanx Tim, I was about to suggest an onlie scan, this has happened to a friend of hers and her work PC.

Have known MS$ to be "busy" and downloading updates to be on the slow ....real slow side, but not that slow.
Havwe her look in the add/remove to see what got installed ....and do the scan and then might consider doing a system restore to before the download, just to be on the safe side ....then go to the MS$ update site and see what it says is needed ....security wise ...and then make sure that any auto updates she clicks on custom install to see what it is.
