So I built this computer for a high school kid:

    GA-F2A88x-D3
    FX8300
    16gb 1600 D3 ram
    gtx 1070 8gb
    3 TB HHD

he just wanted a computer that didn't cost much that would play some games. And windows 10 is making that impossible. I seem to recall that happening to me and other people a while back do to an update? I was going to throw in an a small SSD for to install windows on but isn't there another fix?

Open Task Manager and look for what's using the resources.

I think I have it fixed. Just not my specialty anymore. But I bet I do have some tough questions for you guys in general. This isn't one but, why would the computer just turn itself on at 3am and start "updating"? I just did that and never set it to do it on it's own.

There are only 2 states your computer can be in prior to turning itself on.......powered off, or hibernation.
A computer that is totally powered off, will not wake automatically to perform any preset windows commands!

You built the kid this computer, so you most likely clean installed Win10 on it for him also yeh?
    Why are you blaming Win10?

Just wanted to know when was the last time it was scanned for virus or malware.

Maybe the other person messed with windows settings. Not knowing what it does.

Probably not the case in this instance but the bios could be set to Wake on Lan or such

    True all so.

Edit: some motherboards don't have this option any more.

Honestly unless the bios was set to that by default then no. I have been having some crazy security issues. And if they wanted to be sneaky they shouldn't have had their it department's phone number show up on my car stereo every time I turned on my car. Well it was just a bunch of numbers but when I went to contacts then saw them there, their phone number was under it. I'm not talking federal here, it's just state, the most corrupt in the nation some say.
