We have two computers, both running windows XP Pro, connected to each other through a LAN. It's been working perfectly up until recently, when for some reason it now does not working with the all too familiar "limited or no connectivity" message.

The TCP/IP is set to automatically obtain IP and DNS settings. When clicking repair it says "renewing IP address" and fails at that stage. It tells me "This problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer".

Windows firewall is off, but Sygate Personal Firewall is on.

I just finished setting up mine and it turned out sygate was interfering with it. Try disabling it for now and see if that changes anything.

it appears sygate is not the problem.
