Just yesterday was presented with the "To continue you need to update blah blah." So I downloaded it from here (as always) and it wouldn't let me connect. The help pages (sorry I didn't save the history) I was directed to for my error number had me re-register a dll and install "msxml3.msi" from Microsoft. It worked for my problem. This *probably* won't help with your problem as I couldn't even sign in but gives you something to maybe look into. Also, my sign in problem wasn't like it couldn't connect to the service, it wouldn't even try to.

iwunder, you've probably fixed this by now :)
If not, why not revo it - and go with a clean install, instead of the upgrade.
    Cheers.. :wave

thanx silvik that was one of the first things i thought of complete uninstall of all things related to windows live ,ccleaner and i also used reg seeker a restart of the computer then cleaner and regseeker again to make sure all was gone .reinstalled from scratch still no go with sign in ,was corresponding with support but they have still to get back to me so i gave up racking my brains yesterday arvo and was going to give it another go this morning.
the program wont even sign on now,it goes through the sign on process but just goes back to the sign on window.tried a few things that i read up on but no go so i think i will pursue Buck_nekid suggestion and see how if that helps.
i have read that a lot of other uses are having similar issues but no real fix for this.i think Microsoft should get there act together and sort these issues out or atleast have some kind of remedy available.

Curious. Do you use PCTools firewall?

thanx tim but no i am using comodo and have tried shutting it down still no joy also thought that msse might be a problem so i turned of the real time protection to see but ruled that out.every thing worked fine until the the forced upgrade to the new version.
i will try Buck_nekid suggestion and and post back with the result.i am usually pretty good at resolving problems like this myself but this one has got me stumped.

I had a lot of issues with it crashing when I was using PCTools. But just a few days ago I also got the forced update. I tried to allow it to update and received an error. I downloaded from the windows live site and it has worked without an issue. This is strange, but not particularly surprising with Live Messenger. :(

yeah i did the automatic download but there was other issues and i followed the suggestions at the site i posted before which resolved some of the issue.then i got the sign on problem yesterday it would sign on then just drop out,now it wont sign on at all but i will get this sorted.i downloaded the program from another site so if this doesn't resolve it i will try downloading form windows live site and reinstall it again.i even got an auto update this morning from Microsoft but that didn't resolve this.

Not saying PC Tools Firewall isn't causing you some installation hassles, but I have PC Tools Firewall and was able to install the new WLM version without a hitch. I've been looking at other threads reporting troubles with the new WLM....I assume everyone's pc is meeting the system requirements for WLM, then again maybe everyone should double check this. Good luck.

well i gave up and browsed around and found something help full in another post on this site so i uninstalled 2009 and swapped it for a beta version of 2008 and this works so far,no pop up requesting the up grade yet but i have also downloaded a patch if that happens, fingers crossed no more hassles.
yes tritonobx my system does meet all the requirements for version 2009 and it runs on my cp it just wouldn't stay signed in,possibly something in the registry.maybe its some other hardware issue that i am not aware of.
