Trying to log in to Messenger and I keep getting the message "we cannot sign you in to windows live messenger" stating the service is temporarily unavailable.

When I click "more details" it just gives me the error code 8000401a.

Does anyone know what causes this, and how to fix it?

    Many thanks

We need to know what your OS is ie: Win98/ XP/ Vista/ Win7 ?

Ah of course, sorry, It's Win XP SP3.

I found a fix on the MS website, involving deleting a registry entry using regedit. I did this and it seems to have sorted it. Well, I can log in anyway, but often the Win "fixes" are just temporary, and the thing goes wrong again, so we shall see.

    Thanks

That is exactly what i was going to suggest, but make sure you have backed up your registry first ! :)
