When I open msn a balloon pops up sometimes saying
I have run the chkdsk utility but to no avail.

    Then sometimes it just says

This does not affect messenger in any great way. The only problem I have noticed is that voice clips have completely gone. If I try to record one it says it could not be recorded. If somebody sends me a voice clip I dont even know it has been sent as it does not show up or play.

Now very frequently windows live messenger throws up "windows messenger has encountered an error and needs to close". This happens all the time now and is quite frustrating.

My specs(not sure what specs to put in but i have copied them from my belarc results)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have hijack this aswell so I decided to post a log from it.

    Any help would be great.

Have you tried uninstalling the program and running your favorite registry cleaner, then reinstalling the program?

    Behind any firewalls?

    Not behind any firewalls.

I unistalled, ran a registry cleaner and reinstalled the program. The "windows messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close" problem seems to be fixed but the other one hasnt.

Actually nothing has been fixed. When I try to open a conversation window with a contact the "windows messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close" comes and closes msn.

Uninstall Messenger Plus ( doubious adware software .. yep I do know about the opt out ) as it seems to be corrupting Microsofts MSN Messenger.

The you may need to uninstall MSN Messenger and install the latest MSN Live Messenger version.

Please any more suggestions would be great as this is urgent. The ugency lies in the fact windows live messenger keeps closing not with the other error.

Uninstall Live MSN, delete the MSN Messenger folder in C: Program Files, run CCLeaner to remove junk temp folders and also run its Issues Scan to clean up the registry, then download MSN Live Messenger again from only http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

your not using resource hacks to change the look and options of MSN messenger are you?

What error message are you getting now?

If same as above which one is it?

Resource Hacks yes they alter the main exe file and could corrupt it, depending on if they were written for the version of MSN you were using or not, each new MSN version most often needs a new resource hacked file, be that for the look or usage as the coding of the original exe will have changed slightly to resolve bugs or quality of use issues.

Run chkdsk again, tell it to fix any errors and restart. Be sure and restart, that's important.

Funnily enough chkdsk fixed the errors that said it was corrupt. Except windows live messenger keeps closing when I open a chat convo.

I cant use windows live messenger because it keeps closing, surely there is another solution.

You have no error messages when it closes?

Check Event Viewer > Applications for any mention of MSN Messenger errors and what are they if their are any?

If you have any security programs apart close then down/disable and test MSN again.

This is what the error says in event viewer

Your not on any network are you that you dont have permissions as in Admin?

Do you have Spybot S&D and more so its Teatimer running, if Teatimer is running disable it.

Also try this to rebuilt the MSN Cache

Click Start > Run and copy & paste this bold text in %appdata%\Microsoft click OK or hit Enter, then rigth click Delete the MSN messenger folder, then try MSN Messenger again.

I am the administrator....Dont have teatimer running or any other antivirus/spyware protection program.

Tried deleting the msn messenger folder via %appdata%\Microsoft but still when I ran ccleaner and reinstalled msn messenger it closed again.

Looked at event viewer at it came up with the same error details as mentioned in my last post.

Before using CCleaner and re-installing MSN did you first try MSN to see if it worked after deleting the folder?

Goto My Documents\My Received Folder and if you have a MsnMsgr.txt delete it, then goto run and paste %appdata%\Microsoft and delete the MSN folder, also install or re-install Flash Player 9 http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ .. have no idea why this would be an issue, but an .ocx (flash9.ocx) file attributable to Flash9 is in your error message.

then run MSN ( dont use CCLeaner or Re-install MSN ) again, does it now work?

It worked for a while then after a day it started closing again. I did what you said again and msn worked again. Now it keeps closing and using your solution doesnt work anymore.

I have no more thoughts other than that I have posted, over some other application you have installed conflicting with MSN, be that a skinning app to file corruption of your OS.

Have you fully checked your PC for malware?

Yeah ive ran in safe mode and used every program I have to scan the computer but to no avail. Maybe the only thing I can do now is reinstall xp?
