windows live messenger question

    alright well i have windows live messenger 8.5 on windows xp , and i just noticed there is no sound played when i get a new message from someone. Like usualy when someone respond you get that distinct sound so that you know.. the window flashes yellow but no sound.. i just realized that and dont know what to do.

    And YES if i go to Tools > Options > Alerts and sounds the "display alert when message is received" is Checked.

    Anyone else have this or what?
