I am running Windows XP on my computer. My Windows Live One Care is not working properly anymore and I can't figure out how to fix it.
When I try to open the program from the Start menu, it only briefly flashes a dark blue box on the screen, and then it disappears. I cannot open the program.
So, I went to the Microsoft website and printed out the troubleshooting directions.
I clicked on 'Start', typed in 'services.msc' and then looked at the different parts of the Windows Live One Care program.
On Windows Live OneCare, the startup is automatic and it's in Start mode.
    But...
On the Windows Live OneCare Health Monitor, the startup is automatic - but it's in STOP mode. When I try to click on 'Start' and hit 'Apply' - it immediately butts me out - and gives me this error message box:
"Could not start the Windows Live OneCare Health Monitor service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

Following the rest of the directions on the Microsoft website, I tried to go into the Control Panel to Add or Remove Programs -- so that I could uninstall the program and then reinstall it, fresh, from the disk I have. As soon as I try to click on "Change/Remove" - I get a quick glimpse of a rectangular black box, and then it's gone, and nothing happens. It will not let me edit or uninstall the program.

How I realized that something was wrong with my machine... was that each time I started working on a Word document, it would be about 5 minutes and then an error message box would pop up on my screen and when I clicked on OK, the Word document would disappear and the Word program would shut down and I'd be back to the Desktop. All my work blitzed!

HELP !!! How do I fix this Windows Live OneCare program... so it's up and running correctly again?
Of course, I tried to call Circuit City for help... but we all know how that went - since they're going out of business. Might as well whistle dixie...

    Anybody got any ideas here?
    Thanks,
    ~Ellen~

    Revo uninstaller

    Ccleaner

Why not start with the 2 utilities I sent you. the first is Revo uninstaller load it and see if it will allow you to uninstall it using this program. the I'd run Ccleaner, use the clean portion and the registry fix. (make sure you back up registry). once it finishes try to install live care again. Post back if it works or not there may be another solution we can try..
