Windows Mail contacts disappearing

Vista Home Premium/Dell XPS410/2GB RAM/Windows Mail/BitDefender Internet Security 2008

I went to send an email yesterday and discovered my Contacts folder was empty. I had a backup (a bit outdated) on external hard drive so imported. I booted today, went to Windows Mail, checked contacts folder and it is empty again.

I have the anti-spam module in BitDefender disabled because back when I first got it I couldn't keep my email message rules in place and haven't had any trouble with Windows Mail since doing that.

If anyone can offer any clues or ideas why this is suddenly happening I would appreciate hearing from you.

Are you using sub-folders instead of contact groups? If so, see this link http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/69738-contact-groups-windows-mail.html as you will need to use contact groups in Vista.

 

I don't set up any folders of any kind for my contacts. I also do not use contact groups because in my situation that just isn't feasible. I got this computer in July 2007 and I have never had any trouble with my contacts all disappearing. I've had BitDefender since June 2008 so if that's causing the problem I don't know what's changed.

Any other ideas I am open to checking into them.

 

You know, when I ran into trouble with the new AVG 8.0, I tried Commodo firewall with Avast and that worsened the mess I already had. I read so many good things about Commodo, but that experience convinced me that I'm just not knowledgeable enough to use Commodo. I guess as long as this is the only problem, I can just make sure to back up my contacts regularly so that I can re-import them. It just drives me nuts not to know what's causing it, but I really don't feel like going through the hassle of uninstalling one security program and then reinstalling another one --- unless some more problems crop up.
