Windows Mail Crashes After Update to IE11

Hi,

I am running Windows 7 and using Windows Mail as my email Client and it has worked perfectly for years. Windows Update installed IE11 this morning and now Windows Mail shuts down as soon as I select a new email. I can do anything else including opening old read emails, but when I try to select a new one from any of four accounts it immediately shuts down. Not sure if this has anything to do with the update. The event viewer logs the error as the mshtml.dll file. I have tried the System File Checker, Microsoft Fix-it, rebooting and running various virus programmes to no avail. From memory I had to jump through a few hoops a few years ago to get Windows Mail, not Windows Live Mail, installed on Windows 7 and I am not sure how to reinstall it if necessary and save all of my settings and message rules.

Can anyone help me fix this?

The easiest fix is to uninstall IE 11 and revert to IE 10.
Hide the update so it will not be downloaded and installed again until you are ready to install it.

 

Yeah, I was wondering how you had Windows Mail instead of Windows Live Mail since Windows Mail was designed only for Windows Vista. Why aren't you using Windows Live Mail? I see no reason for Windows 7 users to not use it and, as an alternative, somehow install an email client not intended by Microsoft to be used in Windows 7.
