Windows ME Defrag/other sys maintenance

Hi folks,
Have old school background (8080's came in brief cases with point to point
pin plugs to make L.E.D.'s blink when I was in Junior College). Am conversant
with technical terms/concepts, just not up to date on the latest/greatest.
Have a good friend who is, but, like me, he will give you only so much, then
kick your *** to go do your on research. So, here I am.
My dilemma; ='s , Windows ME.
The wife inherited her mothers system and I have constant problems getting
scan disk/defrag to run (not to mention keeping daughter-in-law off of F***
ing you boob/my face space/virus/spyware pool place).
But, that's just ranting and thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
