I have a hewlet packard running windows me, I started having problems with my dsl and the morons had me change settings that screwed everything up so i have norton go back and tried to go to before but it did not work so i decided to format the hard drive and start from scratch i used the recovery cd and it said hard drive could not be initialized , you may need t f disk well i opened the computer and made sure everything was plugged in tight all seemed ok, i did the f disk and ran the recovery cds they ran fine but on reboot i got a black screen that says load error! press any key to reboot, well when i do that i get the same message. when i did the f disk it did not ask me to type in the volume label and now that spot is blank and when i create the dos partition and it did not ask me to name it and i know that last time i had to do an fdisk i did have to name it. Any ideas?

Naming is part of formatting and fdisk has nothing to do with formatting. After you create a partition in fdisk you still have to go and format it. Making the partition is only half the job. So once it's made reset the computer and then format the partition you made.

That would most likely solve your problems. Although I highly recommend any OS other then ME. If you are reinstalling you should seriously consider using a diffrent OS. There is no other OS with as many problems as ME.

I know ME stinks, i would like to get rid of it but do not want to invest in 98 for a computer that is so old. I did reformat the drive with the recovery disk i did the format and recover option and it all runs fine or seems to but then when i take the recovery disk out and reboot it gives me the load error message again. I have had this problem before and i thought fe doing the f disk fixed it but i tried that and it did not help i have ran the format and recover program twice with no luck. Thanks for the reply, any more ideas?
