Windows ME No Sound

Hi,
I had asked for help several months ago with this problem and while I tried a number of things others suggested (thanks again Steve) I was never able to resolve it. I'm hoping someone might have an answer. The only way I can get sound from my computer is to start in safe mode and remove all of the items listed in the device manager under sound, video and game controllers then restart in normal mode. Windows then finds all the "new" hardware and installs all of the devices. Then I have sound but.... only until I turn the computer off. The next time I get on I have to do all of those steps again to have sound. My computer is a Dell but it is old and was used when I got it with Windows ME already installed. Is there anyone out there that can help me with this?

I recently had a similar problem caused by Nvidia WDM drivers,after I installed the drivers and restarted I got a message saying that my sound drivers were not there and to reinstall them.When I went to reinstall them I found the Windows CD drivers were also corrupted(which was Ideal).

I downloaded a couple of programs from this site and cleaned up my registry and device drivers and no more probs.I hope this helps.

PS the best thing I ever did was ditched ME and went to XP.

 

Im going to have to go with c503 on this one. WinME is the biggest nightmare as far as drivers are concerned. Do whatever it takes and up the OS to XP....and if your compy cant handle it, even downgrade to 98SE...that was a way more stable system (in comparision to ME anyway).
