Hello. I need help with my Windows ME machine. For some odd reason I checked Microsoft for updates for my machine since I never had. It showed there were 25 updates available. I updated four security links just for fun. After these downloaded I updated the Windows Media Player from v.4 to v.9. In the process of updating the media player it told me that System Restorer was not turned on, so I turned it on. Well, I'm not having fun any more. Now when I turn on the machine an error comes up before booting that says - System protection error. You need to restart your computer. System halted. After manually turning the power off and back on, the machine starts back up in safe mode. Can I fix any of this, or somehow undo what I've done?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In safe mode, you can turn off system restore.
Click on Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/ Restore (I'm pretty sure that is that path. I no longer have ME installed so I can't check).
You may not have enough hard drive space to run system restore and download updates at the same time.

I also don't remember if this option is available in ME: tap the F8 key at bootup and you get a menu of choices. Do you see Last Known Good Configuration?
