    OK, do you have any other boot disks ...me 98 or even earlier dos? You can boot up, access the i386 folder on the cd and run winnt.exe from there.

    let me know what you have, so I can give you a better walk through

    LOL if you have the Windows 98 go with it, even M$ admits ME was a huge mistake.

    The poster said he did not have 98. All he has is a ME upgrade disk which will not install unless there is proof of windows 98.

    Dakz, can you help him a bit more.
    Which boot disk should he download? 98SE or ME

    wordmaster43, towards the end of the page it says this

    yep you would have to save it then copy to a floppy, I believe either one will work for him and no bigger then they can be grab both, but personally I think the Win98 would be his best bet to use the ME upgrade that he has.

    As we haven't heard from the OP in 18 days either he has solved this or just given up I would think ;) But as I'm currently under orders to rest, and so a bit bored, and have a ME upgrade disk, and also have an old PC I could use, I'll see if I can work out a method for him.

    The first problem I guess will be not having a floppy drive on the PC he's using to download the boot disk file.

    @DAKz

    DAKz, I've booted my old PC with a Win 98 boot disk with CD support and I'm looking at the contents of the ME upgrade CD. Basically there's just a setup.exe and a load of CAB files. There is no i386 folder on the CD, that is created on the hard disk during setup.

    So tell me what it is you believe can be done now to install ME and avoid the validation and I'll try it.
