    Hi Everyone,
I'm new here (to the forum) but have been a frequent visitor to the site for over a year now. Anyhow, here's my problem. I just put together a new computer and somewhere along the line of doing the Windows Update downloads and installing Winamp, DX9b, Real Player, etc...my Windows Media 9 player doesn't output any sound. The videos show up but no sound. Doesn't matter what kind of file it reads. Any ideas of why that's so? I've already uninstalled all my players and reinstalled just WM9, but to no avail. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks.

I just ran it and I could hear everything that it requested. I should've also mentioned that when I'm running Vegas Video 4b I can hear .WMV encoded movies in there but not in media player. Sound works in all my apps but nothing in media player.

    Update:

I've gone through Microsoft's knowledge base and tried everything it suggested, ie - turn off hardware acceleration, updated latest codecs, uninstall/reinstall WMP9...etc. Still no luck. I've written a letter to tech support (Microsoft & SoundMAX). Hopefully I'll get a reply from them. Anyhow, if I find a solution, I'll make sure to post it so if anybody else has the same problem they can find the solution here. Thanks again for the help.

Shirley.. welcome to majorgeeks :) but you would be best served starting your own post and giving us as much information as possible... eg. what windows version you are using & hardware and audio software you have ( soundcard, motherboard etc etc ) and any errors you may have come across and what types of files you are playing?

quick answer is have you checked .. control panel > Sounds & Audio Devices > Click advanced ( which brings up a volume control ) and make sure non are ticked mute.
