Ok let me start by saying that I know this is an older software on an older system. However upgrading is not an option for the individuals computer I am working on.
The computer I am fixing is an E-Machine T5048, running:
    Windows XP Media Center v. 2002 sp3
    Intel p4 3.06 GHz with 448 RAM

The user wants to use Windows Media Center to play DVD's. Everytime a DVD is attempted to be played it recieves a standard Decoder error: The video decoder has malfunctioned or not been installed. Please restart Media Center or the Computer.

I have tried installing various freeware codecs and decoders online with no success. When I install a software such as Corel WinDVD 2010 it plays the DVD wonderfully, however this is not something the user wants to do, and Media Center still gives me the same error.

Can anyone offer a freeware suggestion for this problem?
