I have been using Windows Media for years now to burn CD's. In windows 10 it is not working the same. Is there a program in windows 10 that replaces windows media player?

    thank you,

    Wadda

There are plenty of good free software programs to burn CDs and to play all kinds of media:
For burning CDBurnerXP is good: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/cdburnerxp.html
For playing all types of file:
    VLC Media Player: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/vlc_media_player.html
    or
Media Player Classic Home Conema: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/media_player_classic_home_cinema.html

However, if you explain to us in detail what problem you have with Windows Media Player in Win 10 (it works just fine on my Win 10) we might be able to help.

I understand what you are saying wadda. I have not tried this in a while. Even though I bought the CDs and loaded them on my computer years ago it now says something about not having permission.
In the past I loaded songs from CDs that I own in Windows Media Player to make CDs of just the songs I really like off those CDs. Some time around Win8 and now also with Win10 it no longer let me record some but not all of those same songs on a CD that will play in my auto. As I said I paid for the CDs and it says something about not having permission. Now I Just load to my phone or a jump drive to play through my auto stereo system.
Hope one of the programs max mentioned works for you.

I would like to thank everyone for their assistance. My reply to Max Turner: the problem I had with my windows media in windows 10 is I no longer can download numerous files(audio) and have the program separate the amount of files on each CD. It usually broke the files down to 3 or 4 cds and then burned each breakdown on to the discs. This time it kept crashing, and would not separate the files for the correct amount to burn to individual discs. Several times it just stopped working. I really am disappointed because it made it so easy for me to download the audio talks. I now have to learn to use a different program, at my age it gets taxing. Hopefully, I can learn a new way of doing things. Change is hard for an older person like myself. Again Thank you, Wadda

I agree in CDBurnerXP and works great in Windows 10, also agree Max in re-installing WMP as should work ok in W10 as used it this week on a friends laptop running 10 to burn some music.
If WMP is crashing then its likely another issue happening as well, so is this W10 install an update or new PC with Win 10 installed? as if update what is the model and make of PC/Laptop as maybe you need update in drivers, so device manager may hold clues if any yellow ! marks are found.

You have been such a help to me. But O'Boy I have a terrible time consuming problem with windows 10. I hope you can help me. I have been losing and seems like duplicating files. My computer is a disorganized mess. I began looking for some lost files when I noticed that my computer showed me as a separate user from the Default, Default User, Public, And All Users which I am refused access. How can I set up my PC to have one user. maybe I am using the incorrect labeling. At 76, I get confused trying to find my files this way. I would like to open the computer, see all my files and not other. The other files seem to duplicate some of the files listed under This PC. Do you have any suggestions for me, please. I tried to get into the forum at major geeks but I couldn't login. The whole page shadows on me and I couldn't enter my login. Please thank you in advance. At this rate it doesn't help me to have this PC if it is so time consuming to find a file.

Sounds entirely normal to me. I think you have managed to confuse yourself looking in File Explorer at C:\Users where those other user accounts you have listed are always shown. You can forget about them, the only account you are interested in is the one with your own user account name and if you click on it it will list just your personal folders - Documents, Pictures, Music etc. Admittedly it was simpler in Win 7 where clicking your account name from Start would just list just your personal folders. I don't like the way File Explorer in Win 10 displays the folder structure either and am hoping it will be improved in time but I can't see anything is wrong with yours. If you still feel it isn't right then give us a screenshot or two. Oh, and on a personal note please stop adding to the impression that everyone over 75 is confused and past it. I'm over your age and still contributing regularly here ;)

Thank you for your reply. I don't want to sound like I don't know anything that is why I add my age, so someone who know what old age can do to you will take the time to help. I stopped going to classes for the computer in 2004 and boy things have changed today. I keep trying to keep up with it. Just a mention again about you helping me, I truly appreciate it.

Is there a way I could set it up that my files are listed under my name when I go into file explorer. To be honest at this point I don't know how to have them show up without going into This PC:, C:, Users:, then my name to get to my files. Any thoughts on that, because I search for a file forever only to find it when I remember to go the route described above to search for the one I am looking for. Thank you, much

When you click the 'start' button and there's a list that pops up where you see 'This PC', at the top there should be your user name. Click on it and you should go to your 'user' area.

Thank you for your response but when I go to start, at top of the pop up I see my name. When I click it I only get the options change account setting, lock and sign out. I must be in the wrong area?

I'm sorry. I'm using "Classic Start Menu 4.1.0" , so mine has been changed to look like Win 7. You're in the right area. Maybe someone with a Win 10 will chime in.

Do like you did before. Go to This PC>Users> but don't just click your name. Right click instead and select "Send To" then either desktop (create shortcut) or pin to start menu. From either place you should then have folder of your files.

I have installed it on my mom's laptop. Like you, she's 76 years old. :)

When you are in File Explorer you can right click any folder, such as Documents, Music etc, and click Pin to Quick Access (3rd from top in the popup menu). Then, every time you open File Explorer your favourite folders will be at the top, under Quick Access. Personally, for ppl like yourself, I would not recommend using third party addons that change the way Windows works. They may cause you further problems when asking for advice in the future and your screen doesn't show the standard setup.

Will I cause more problems if I try to download the Classic Start Window?

    No.
Just remember, when asking for Windows 10 help, mention that you're using Classic Shell.

I want to thank everyone for all your input to my problem. I still haven't found all my files/documents but I am slowly finding them. Now I have to figure out what not to see and what I want to see on my file explorer. Again, Thank you, Wadda
