Hello, I have a sony pcv-rx551, somewhere along the way after sp2, etc. I tried to play a dvd and I get error: "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer."

I've tried the k lite pack and the xp codec pack and all they will support is the classic windows media player.

    Can anyone offer suggestions?

Oh yeah also my PC will not even recognise the restore/application disks that came with the computer when I bought it? but that's minimal at this point

If I'm in the wrong forum let me know.

    Thanks in advance,

    TD

I tried http://www.majorgeeks.com/Codec_d5118.html and now I get message "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. Open Display in Control Panel, and then lower your screen resolution and color quality settings."

I did replace the hard drive a couple years ago when the original crashed, added a radeon 128mb video card(the original was a 32mb nvidia). and added memory. That's about it. I hadn't tied to use the DVD player for anything more than a CD player until recently, so I couldn't tell exatly when the video playback stopped working or if it ever worked with media player 10?

    Thanks,

    Dan
