Windows Media Player 10 Windows Media Configureation manager Fix

    Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

    1. Start Registry Editor.
    2. Locate the following key in the registry:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
    4. Type WindowsMediaPlayer, and then press ENTER.
    5. With the WindowsMediaPlayer key selected, on the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    6. Type DisableAutoUpdate, and then press ENTER.
    7. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
    8. Type 1, and then click OK.
    9. Close Registry Editor.
    this is from Microsoft this is how too disable the NAGGing Windows Media Configureation manager pop up it got on my nerves.

    You can also set it to not check for updates in preferences, but since it's for an outdated version of WMP I wouldn't suggest doing this as there were lots of holes in version 10 that had to be patched. No updates means no patches. ;)

    Also, might be a good idea to share a link with the page you got the information from. There is a Microsoft Fix-It download that will do this automatically, as a non-tech user might muck up the registry. You should also always suggest they back up the registry before messing around in it.

    Nope i don't trust the Fix it i have had an issue in the past where one messed my windows i normally fix the problem my self in the REG edit.

    Perhaps one of your 'tweaking' or 'reg clean' programs broke it?

    Nope it was doing it when i fresh installed XP. And i scan for malware and virus nightly so none of them either.

    Sure it's not the other way around? :-D

    Each fix-it is independent; it only approaches the issue it was written to repair. But if you feel you are one up on Microsoft, more power to you. :)
