Windows Media Player 11

Good day geeks, I'm running XP Home SP3 WMP 11
Until recently, WMP worked fine. Now, it will open but in about 2-3 seconds will show the WMP has encountered a problem and needs to close. When I either send or don't send the error report, WMP closes.

I tried to uninstall so I could install a clean copy but the uninstaller only seems to want to rollback, so I downloaded and ran from the MS website, but that install did not fix the problem. During the install there was a problem with the ERM module, but the install completed without it.

Now I notice that WMP will still run OK as long as I don't send or don't send the error report (which remains always on top).

I've never had a problem with it, but have always preferred to use Winamp for playback. I wanted to rip a cd and now find that Winamp will only rip[ to ACC unless I by Pro.

So, is there a way to completely uninstall WMP? If not that is there a fix for the problem apparently caused by the error reporting feature. If not that, then Songbird seems a good substitute.

Actually the Error Reporting service has long been disabled. I follow Black Viper religiously when it comes to services. So that creates another question, why is ther error reporting tool popping up if the service is disabled?

Will try the uninstall later...

I had a rough time with my Media Player after some videos were placed in a library, temporarily and this reset the WMP w/o diturbing my files.Microsoft Fix it Soution center trouble shooting software issues.
