    Good Morning,
I checked"similar threads which have already been posted",already.
I recently reinstalled our Win 98se OS with all Apps,Drivers etc..and I now find, that I have no Sound in Windows Media Player 9 (Or any other Player for that matter)!I've reinstalled our "Sound Blaster Live Value" original program again, but I still have no sound! Can someone help me with this? Thanks,

First step: Is the volume on?
Double click the audio icon in the task bar to get to the Master Volume controller

Second step: Is the Windows Audio service running?
    Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
Scroll down the list of services until you find Windows Audio
Open up Windows Audio by double clicking
Make sure it is running, if not, click on Start.

Third step: Check to see if your Sound Device drivers are OK. Use Device Manager:
To open Device Manager: Start>Control Panel> System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager, then click the plus sign in front of Sound, Video, Game Controllers.
In Device Manager, if there is a ? in front of your audio device, that means no audio driver is installed.
A ! means driver installation attempted but with problems.

    Fourth step: System Information

Use Everest or PCWizard to get a report of your system’s hardware, OS, and drivers. Upload the report as an attachment, if the first 2 steps didn't fix the problem. Also, let us know what you saw in Device Manager.

    Hi musksnipe,

Well,I did'nt get very far in trying to fix our problem!
First step: Is the volume on?

I did'nt have the Audio Icon in the Taskbar,so I reinstalled our "Creative Sound Blaster Live" program and got their Audio Icon in the Taskbar. That solved nothing.
Second step: Is the Windows Audio service running

I then went to "Control Panel " and there is no "Administrative Tools" subject line there! So I'm stuck!
Third step: Check to see if your Sound Device drivers are OK. Use Device Manager:

See Screenshot for above.Pls Note:The "ATItuneP,WD TV Tuner" has always been that way,and never affected Sound!

    Sound ,Video ContolllersScreenShot003.jpg

    Fourth step: System Information
    I have both Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
    PCWizard: http://www.majorgeeks.com/PC_Wizard_d3846.html
and ran them both, got a report, and in each case it amounts to many pages.I'd love to upload a Report as an attachment, but how do I do that? Many thanks for all your help

You can also get to your services by going to Start>Run and typing in services.msc and hitting enter. You should check to make sure Windows Audio is running before we go further.
Click "Report" near the top of the window in Everest, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware-related Pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
In your next post, click "Go Advanced". If you scroll down the page a little bit you will see "Additional Options" Click "Manage Attachments", then browse to where you saved the file to, then click "Upload" and close the window. If you click "Preview Post" after that, you should see the attachment. You can delete the file after up-loading it.

    Hi musksnipe,
Here's what I've come up with.

(Quote)You can also get to your services by going to Start>Run and typing in services.msc and hitting enter. You should check to make sure Windows Audio is running before we go further

The above resulted in this... Services.mscScreenShot.jpg

I also enclose the Everest Report as you suggested...

I hope we will be able to fix this problem with above. Thanks

That's my fault. I didn't remember your OS is Win98,(1st post) until I looked at your Everest report. You don't have "services" the way XP and Vista do.

Try this driver download and install it.
Creative Sound Blaster Live Player 1024 driver download
I'm doing some looking around to see if I can learn more about Win98 and "no sound" issues, but I am not really familiar with Win98. Not sure I'll be much help. :(

You can also try this scan at the Creative site.
    Creative Software Autoupdate

This is the audio driver for your motherboard. It's from the ASUS site.
It is a .zip file, so you will need to unzip it and then look for the setup.exe file. (double-click on it)

VIA VT82C686A Audio controller driver for DOS, Win9x, WinNT 4.0, Win2000, and Linux. http://support.asus.com/images/asus_download_dot5.gif
    Download from: USA

If this last doesn't work, let me know and I'll do some more looking around on Win98.
