I would like to use windows media player to view wmv...
When I receive a wmv file attachment It opens in media player but the picture is all distorted and jumbled color. I am using a Dell dimension 8400 windows xp pro with 1gb 1/4 full 512 memory media player 9. Dell cannot fix this so they had me download a vlc media player. I hate the inconvience of this media player.
Does any one have any suggestions?
Even did a reformat ..still the same problem. I must be missing a codec or something....Help:cry

There are no problems that i am aware of with the build 10 or 11 so do give 11 a try

    Try opening with mplayer 2 . . . . .

    Open with
    Choose Program
    Browse
(navigate to your C Drive, or whatever drive you have windows installed on)
    Find Program Files
Near the end of the list of folders, you should find "Windows Media Player". Inside this folder is mplayer 2.
Select this, and see if your WMV will play satisfactorily with this.
I just tried it to make sure it works, and it seems to work for me on a WMV file created using Windows Movie Maker. It had to download a codec first, but it actually played better (less jumpy) than in Media Player 11.

Sorry it will not work either...Dell said they can't fix it microsoft wants $59.
I am afraid to download 10 or 11 as my computer just doesn't like microsoft downloads. Could I put a restore point and then download 10 and if it didn't work could I restote to the point before I installed 10..Hate to sound diumb but some microsoft stuff will not remove doing a back a few days restore
