Windows Media Player Error Message

I tried to upgrade from WMP10 to WMP11 and got the following error message:
error message 80070005

This is the answer that Microsoft has for it:
You've encountered error message 80070005 while using Windows Media Player. Additional information is not currently available for this error. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows Media Player. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Now I don't have any windows media player. I've tried to re-install WMP10, but it won't install. Windows XP home.

Any ideas?

 

Did you get the error message while you were upgrading or did WMP 11 install and then fail to start?

 

While I was upgrading.

I fixed it by doing the following.

Start\Run & type regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Windows Media Format Runtime

&

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Windows Media Player

it said error while opening key...I could not give any permission!

What I did was right clicked on them and added my name, clicked 'Full Control', went to Advanced, 'Owner' tab, clicked on my name under 'Change owner to', clicked okay and then Apply.

Then I was able to down load WMP11.
