Windows media player error

After installing the windows service pack 2 i get this error message when windows mediaplayer is started :

"setup_wm.exe entry point not found"

I have Windows XP home edition.It was working fine until service pack 2 was installed.

Please help me.

 

There is a Windows Media Player 10 available, try downloading and installing it.

 

I have tried that (Windows Media Player 10) before writing in the forum. But still the error message persists.
The exact message is :
" the procedure entry point wahgetcontext could not be located in the dynamic link library ws2help.dll "

I found a little info on your error message and maybe the cause,

WS2_32.DLL
Windows Socket 2.0 32-Bit DLL
Error:
[- Entry Point Not Found]
This procedure entry point WahGetContext could not be located in the dynamic link library WS2HELP.dll.

To start, look for these DLL files that are commonly reported as the result of a poorly written application installation. These files are notorious for causing the Entry Point error message; and, for some reason application vendors can't seem to understand that these files probably already exist on the majority of the world's computers.

Winsock.dll

Wsock32.dll

Ws2_32.dll

Ws2help.dll

Windows Service Pack 2 comes with a built-in WinSock Fix that you might try:

at a command prompt, type: netsh winsock reset

Press Enter. Wait for it to finish and reboot.

Hey thanks steve,
i will try this. but thought before doing that i will let you know that i did install sp2 but with that my player loaded wmp 10 and absolutely stopped working.
Do you think i should install sp2 and try the winsock reset?

You have to have sp2 installed to do this. The Winsock fix is built-in to sp2.
