Windows Media Player freezing after XP reinstall

Hi everyone! My XP repair/reinstall has really brought out the worst in my computer! I have a lot of music files, and like to keep the files properly labelled, with album art. When I open any file and go into Advanced Tag Editor, the box opens OK. Then, when I try to change the file name, artist info or anything, and hit either Apply or OK, the box freezes. The music will continue playing, but I can't stop, pause, or anything. When I try to close the box, I get an End Program - Windows Media Player box, that says Program Not Responding. I hit End Now, and it will stop the music and close both boxes. Then I get a Send Error Report. The details are:

My file folder is also odd - I display as a list, it shows the first 5 songs with their file names, then I get row after row of files beginning Album Art, then the rest of my files appear by their names about 1/2 way through the box. What has happened? And more importantly, how can I fix this?? Thanks for any help.

Copy the programs folder somewhere onto the hard drive. Reload the program to it's origianal location. See how that goes. If it is still no good delete the folder & replace it with the one you copied. If it is OK delete the folder you copied.

Something might have got unassociated when you reinstalled windows.
