Windows Media Player HELP

Has anyone ever heard of Windows Media Player 10.0 all of a sudden playing music distorted via CD or hard drive? One day my Boston Accustics (satellites & subwoofer) speakers sounded like they were blown. I went out and bought new Altec Lansing VS2221 (satellite & subwoofer) speakers. Again they sounded distorted. I inserted a music CD and the Creative Software came up and played the CD. It did NOT sound distorted. I tried the following programs and none of them sounded distorted (Dell Media, Real Player, Creative). I went back to Windows Media Player just to check one more time and it sounded distorted.

Any ideas as to why Windows Media player would make the sound this way.

FYI - I installed a Sound Blaster card in my new Dell because my old Boston Accustic would not work. I thought maybe it was the sound card so I disabled the Sound Blaster and reactivated the on board sound card. And YES, Windows Media PLayer sounded distorted again.

I have no answer, but I have experienced this symptom in WMP10. Lets see if someone knows whether this can be fixed, or at least what the root cause may be.

 

I checked Microsoft's website and found a link to what they think is a fix. I followed MANY different steps and nothing worked. The light bulb came on! I reinstalled WMP 10.0 and BAM all fixed. Just thought I would let who ever is interested in case someone is suffering like I was.
