Recently my windows media player has not been working. When I go to view videos online with it, it will say "Connecting to Media" for a few seconds and it will say "Ready". It has been doing this for the past few days. I installed all new codecs using the klite packs and ive also tried to rollback to previous versions. It all does the SAME thing.

Any ideas on what I should do??

Oh and it even did this when I tried to play content (i.e. movie trailers and the like) from the WMP website.

Could you provide some more details please? Can you describe the problem a little more clearly? Which version of Windows Media Player? Which version of Windows? Have you tried anything to repair the problem? If so, what have you tried? What happened when you tried to fix it? Do you ever get any error messages? Have you checked the Event Viewer (WinXP/Vista/2000) under System or Applications? Have you recently installed/uninstalled anything besides the codecs? Have you checked for malware?
More info is really needed to help here ;)

it will not play ANY videos, thats my problem.

    Windows Media Player 11.

    Windows XP with SP2

I have tried unistalling and reinstalling wmp, i have tried rolling back to preivous editions, i have tried installing the latest codecs and i have updated my xp fully.

Tried checking event viewer, but didnt really know what I was looking at.

I get the error message that it cannot play the file when I try to open the URL

When I open the URL in VLC player, it works just fine.

Thanks for being MUCH more clear and thanks for the extra details. It makes it much easier on those of us trying to help. I'm still looking into your problem, in the meantime, take a look at these general troubleshooting ideas from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918218/en-us
If you recently updated to IE7, this may help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934275/
And here's some other links to the MS Knowledge base that might help:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/234292/en-us
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944110/en-us
You may want to try Dial-A-Fix... it checks your PC and re-registers any DLL files that need it. It's free, right here at Major Geeks http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4899.html You can also try running the system file checker. Put your XP CD in the CD/DVD drive and click Exit when the big blue window opens. Then click Start > Run and type cmd and press Enter. When the command prompt opens, type sfc /purgecache and press Enter, and wait 10 seconds or so. When it's done, type sfc /scannow and press Enter. This may take some time. If you're prompted to insert your XP CD, click retry. If this prompt continually comes up, try putting the CD in the 2nd drive (if you have one; otherwise, keep clicking Retry). When it finishes, try WMP11 again, you may need to reboot. NOTE: there's a space between the "sfc" and the "/" in the commands above. So, try these things, and in the meantime, I'll try to find a more concrete solution, and hopefully some other folks will drop in and offer some suggestions.....

My Windows Media Player files for XP will not play on Vista. I have tried searching for Codec, but they don't do nothing.
