I hope you are still alive to read this LOL.

    Go to My Computer.

In the Devices with Removable Storage area, right-click your drive, and then click Properties.

If your CD drive is recognised, you should see a Recording tab.

Select "Enable CD recording on this drive" check box.

To double-check it in Media Player, go to Tools, Options, Devices, and it should list your burner.

If not, try using the add button.

Also, Windows Media Player is not very good for burning CD's.

dbPowerAmp is free and far better.

BTW, I hope Windows doesn't crash or Daddy's going to give you a hiding. lol

The Recording Tab should be there if your burner is detected and set up okay by Windows. If not then basically it's being treated as a CD ROM.

Is the burner displayed correctly in Device Manager and My Computer, as in brand, model number etc and no errors?

When the problem began, did you install anything new or change any settings or services?

in device manager its located under dvd/cdrom drives. and this happened around the time where i added a dvd drive to my computer and i also changed the drive letters around. i later found out the windows media player burner didnt work and thats when i changed the letters back but it still didnt work. so its most probably due to the dvd drive that i installed. its an older drive so its not a dvd burner, just a player.

    You've completely lost me.

If it's not a burner, then the Recording Tab won't be there.

What drives do you have installed, where and in what configuration?

Eg Two drives installed, one a DVD Rom as Master, and a CDRW as Slave on the secondary controller. Device manager shows both drives etc etc.

ok the drive i set to master is my cdrw drive. my slave drive is the dvdrom drive. the recording tab just doesnt show up on the cdrw drive. for some reason is says its a cdrom drive.

the ones that work: realplayer, itunes

the ones that dont: roxio and windows media

    Roxio is likely the culprit.

Get it off your system and then try again.
