Windows Media Player problem

I just reformatted not too long ago. I was watching videos fine, but suddenly, I can't view videos. When I play the videos, I can hear the sounds fine, but all I get is a blank screen. I downloaded a couple codec packs, but so far they've done nothing. If anyone knows anything about this problem, help would be greatly appreciated.

 

What codec packs did you download, what OS are you using?

 

I'm using XP and I downloaded XP Codec Pack.

 

Just XP? Or xp sp1/sp2?

Do you have a link to that "xp codec pack"?

 

I have sp1 and I don't remember where I got that codec pack.

 

Do you have windows media player 9 or 10?

Otherwise, try playing the file through:

START, RUN, type in: mplayer2 (press enter) see if the video will play here.

 

Nope. I tried that, and it still doesnt work. I know there is like almost a seperate layer or something where videos play. I know whenever I try to screenshot movies, it doesn't work properly and its almost like there is a seperate layer where videos are playing, and video players provide almost a window to the layer. When the movie plays, it's almost like the layer isn't there. It's really weird and hard to explain.
