hello, i'm new so please bear with me,
i recently did a complete system recovery, then got rid of a bunch of un wanted programs like nortan security, ect. replaced them with avg free,spybot,pconpoint....now have more harddrive space and speed on my computer.(i have a compact presario sr1503wm with 512mb ram, 80gb hd, 2.9ghz, with 56gb free space on hd, nvideo 5500fx graphics card). i went to elder scrolls website to download videos of "oblivian", but when i clicked on my selection, windows media player came on screen just like i was begining to play a dvd or something, than gave this message: "windows media player encountered an unknown error. this can occur when another program or o.s. component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to the player". the error i.d. is 0xc00d11cd, condition id=0x00000000. i was wandering if spybot or pconpoint or avg deleted something i needed to make this work right. can yall help me? thanks, kp.

Certainly spybot and AVG can restore what they have deleted (don't know about pconpoint) so have you tried that?

The point is some sites force adware upon you to get their revenue so you can have the downloads for free. So sometimes if you want a freebie version of something then you may well be lumbered with adware.

when i try to download videos such as (elder scrolls:eek:blivian), when i click on to download, windows media player comes up and gives an error message(i posted a thread about this yesterday, no help). i think there's a bug in my windows media player version 10. can i down load W.M.P. again and will it overwrite the old files and work right? i have windows xp and it won't let me delete the old one. help, please!

    Re: windows media player: HELP!!!

Yes you can uninstall WMP and then reinstall it.

To uninstall it Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs go to Windows media player >Add/Remove

After you've done that download it again and see if your problems have gone away

  8. Re: windows media player: HELP!!!

Yargwel that may not be the necessary case. Most new computers that come preloaded with winxp come with service pack 2 and windows media player 10 already installed. Why dont we just try to reinstall windows media from the microsoft site first and see where that takes us.

i don't know why, but since i did the system recovery, a lot of the programs are not listed in the "add or remove" list. they are listed in the >start>all programs list. windows media player is listed without the "uninstall" option(crazy, heh!). so i tried going to the WMP folder contained in the "program files" folder on my harddrive, but when i clik "delete", this message appears:"error deleting file or folder: cannot delete windows media player. it is being used by another person or pragram. close any program that might be using the file and try again." i've tried deleting off line and with all programs closed and the same thing still happens. if i download wmp to my computer, will it just overright the old file or will i the have the old and new files of wmp 10? if i have both i suspect i will still have the same problems X2. HELP!!! thanks. kp

    ok,
i downloaded wmp 10 "over" the pre-installed one and, i was right, the same thing happens times 2. out of frustration, i went to program files>windows media player, opened it, and tried to delete everything inside to the trash bin. it would ACT as if it were deleting it, everything would dissappear for a second, the REAPPEAR AGAIN! I KNOW HATE WMP! please help!

Sound good to me. :) I still use Win98 myself  :) :)

  12. Also when you download windows media player from the ms site you do not keep the old files as they are overwritten by the new version. Also the restore may have done somthing to those programs that are missing. Undo the restore then try to download windows media player again. If it is not in add remove you need to go to add remove windows components and clear it out that way then go to the ms site and install it again.
