Alright, it's been like this for a long time, since my brother had this computer, and I'm sick of it.

Everytime I ran WMP, it would give an error and it'd have to be closed. If it were a video on firefox or IE, it would give an error and that'd have to be closed.

I uninstalled it a while ago, and now when I try to reinstall it (version 10 and 11), it gives this error:

"This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site."

This problem is really bothering me, and I want to have it fixed. I've included my hijack log, and I followed the thread with each step for removing malware and whatnot.

Please help as soon as possible. Thank you.

    Note: Running XP with SP2.

I would try going an system file check first and go from there. Start->run and type "sfc /scannow" (no quotes). This might ask for your windows disk, go ahead and put it in when asked (if you have one, of course!). When you put the disk in, it might autorun and bring up a colorful window asking if you want to insall windows, just exit that screen if it comes up. Best of luck!

    Done, didn't work. :(

When the scan finished, it just closed; didn't ask for Windows CD or anything..

Well, its normal that SFC closes by itself, but I am surprised that it didn't fix the problem, your error is one of the rare cases where the SFC scan is a pretty sure fix.

Hmmm, maybe try manually replacing the c:\Windows\system32\wmploc.dll with one from your C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder or extracting it from the I386 folder of your windows CD? Simply renaming the wmploc.dll file and allowing windows to replace it automatically might work. In anycase, rename the file (to, say, wmploc.old) or back it up before replacing it.

Whee, it works! Thanks a bunch. =)

What was wrong was there was no wmploc.dll file in system32 folder, so I copied and pasted from the i386 folder and it works. thanks again!
